"If you are good at art, you will be good at studies too"

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: "If you are good at your art, you will be brilliant in your studies," said Leela Samson, Director, Kalakshetra Foundation in her address at the inauguration of the sixth year celebration of Kumararaja Muthiah Muthamil Mandram on Wednesday, at Kumararaja Muthiah Hall.

She said that Rukmini Devi Arundale, founder of Kalakshetra, believed that education was complete only with the understanding of one's culture. Art makes a complete citizen, she added.

"Music, dance, painting, sculpture and all other art forms open up into worlds of beauty and brilliance. They are our connection to Indian culture," she said.

Ms. Samson also stressed on the importance of knowing who one is. Many of our children go to universities abroad and then wonder who they are, when someone asks them.

Kumararani Meena Muthiah spoke.

Saindhavi Srivatsan and J.B. Sruthi Sagar, students of Chettinad Vidyashram, were presented with the titles `Kuralisai Chelvi' and `Kuzhalisai Chelvan' for their achievements in the field of music.
