KOZHIKODE: The Students Federation of India (SFI) has won the students' unions in 38 out of the 57 colleges under the Calicut University that went to polls on Tuesday, an SFI release claimed here. The KSU and MSF combine has won in 12 colleges, KSU single-handedly in one college, KSU and ABVP combine in one college, KSU, MSF and ABVP alliance in two colleges and ABVP in one college, the release said. Out of the 90 councillors, 68 councillors belong to the SFI. The KSU has got eight councillors, while the MSF has 12 and ABVP one. One councillor seat was won by an independent in Farook B.Ed. College. The SFI won all the seats in 21 colleges. These 21 colleges include 11 colleges in Kozhikode district, Kalpetta Government College in Wayanad, Manjeri NSS College in Malappuram and four colleges each in Palakkad and Thrissur districts. There is a tie at the MES College, Valancherry where SFI and the opposing MSF-KSU combine have won equal number of seats, the release said. SFI State secretary T.V. Rajesh said the SFI's `splendid victory' was recognition of the agitations it had organised against the `commercialisation of education' and `denying of democratic rights'. Victory processions will be organised on the college campuses on Wednesday, Mr. Rajesh said. The KSU claimed that it had won 14 University Union Councillors (UUCs) under the Calicut University. According to reports, the KSU has won only the students union of the St. Joseph's College, Devagiri, among the city colleges. The ABVP claims that it has won 10 general seats and two UUCs in the University.
