Muslim League leader dead

KOZHIKODE: : A.V. Abdul Rahman Haji, former MLA and a senior leader of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), died at his residence at Meppayur, near Kozhikode, on Tuesday. He was 75. He is survived by two wives and son.

Abdul Rahman Haji was elected to the Assembly from Meppayur in 1970, 1980 and 1982 and from Tiruvambady in 1991 and 1996.

Abdul Rahman Haji attended a function in the morning on Tuesday and after his afternoon siesta was taking a walk at his residence when he collapsed and died.

He was a member of the IUML State secretariat and the State president of one faction of Kerala Naduvathul Mujahidden after the organisation of Mujahids split.

When IUML split in 1974, he was with the All India Muslim League (AIML) formed by the group that had left IUML. He returned to IUML when AIML merged in the parent organisation a few years later.
