Mini leather parks sought in Kadapa

Staff Reporter

KADAPA: Kulavivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangham activists staged dharna before the Collectorate on Tuesday demanding the setting up of mini leather parks in the district.

KVPS district secretary C. Babu, propaganda secretary L. Jitendra and town secretary A. Pushparaj sought allotment of five acres of land each to three mini leather parks, sanctioned in Kadapa district by the previous Government. Leather workers constituted majority of the 16 per cent Dalit population in the district. The TDP Government had sanctioned three mini leather parks in the district, costing Rs. 10 crores each, they recalled.

Three mini leather parks were proposed to be set up at Kondapuram, Kadapa and Atlur earlier, but requisite lands were not allotted by the revenue officials, the KVPS leaders lamented.

The official machinery has recently assured setting up of mini leather parks at Pulivendula and Kadapa, to extend professional training and generate employment to 5,000 leather workers under each of them, they stated.

They demanded expeditious allotment of land and grounding of the leather parks. Leather workers also took part.
