Computer billing system

MADANAPALLE : Computer billing system has been introduced in the four electricity revenue offices of Madanapalle, Punganur, Vayalpad and Piler in Madanapalle division from Tuesday.

K.S.Y. Shariff, divisional engineer of APTransco, Madanapalle said that there are 36,000 consumers in Madanapalle town and for their convenience they have been grouped on the basis of scheduled dates concerned, by which time they have to pay the amount. Correspondent

Ration cards distribution

MADANAPALLE: Ration cards will be distributed from October 4 in Madanapalle division in Punganur, Madanapalle and Palamaner, said Sub-Collector A. Babu. Distribution of ration cards was temporarily stopped due to the municipal elections. Those who had applied for new cards giving declaration can have them in the same places where they went earlier, from October 7 to 20. Correspondent

`Provide crop loans'

KURNOOL: Joint Collector Ramsankar Naik asked the bankers to provide crop loans to those who became landowners under land distribution scheme. Addressing a meeting of bankers here on Tuesday, he said as against the target of Rs. 390 crores as crop loans, the banks disbursed Rs. 270 crores. He said a target of Rs. 210 crores was set for the rabi crop loans. Mr. Naik said 7,000 people who became landowners after the land distribution required credit support. Ryot electrocuted

KADAPA: A farmer, Noogipogu Ramesh (26), was electrocuted in his paddy fields in Jyothi SC Colony in Siddhavatam mandal on Monday night. According to police, Ramesh sprinkled urea in his paddy fields and then switched on an agricultural pumpset to water the fields, when he suffered an electrical shock. He succumbed on way to Siddhavatam Government Hospital. Staff Reporter

TIRUMALA: An ardent devotee of Lord Venkateswara on Tuesday donated a diamond-studded golden crown to the Hill Temple. The devotee who wished to remain anonymous is believed to be from Chennai. Miraculous escape

ONGOLE: Forty passengers travelling by an APSRTC bus escaped with minor injuries when their bus plunged into an abandoned well near Chintala in Prakasam district on Tuesday. Two persons were grievously injured. The driver is absconding.

Sisters attempt suicide

Kurnool: Two sisters from Hyderabad, Sobha (27) and Sunitha (31), attempted suicide by jumping into the Srisailam reservoir on Tuesday. While Sobha died, Sunitha was rescued by onlookers. Family problems are said to have led the two to take the extreme step. - Staff Reporter

Hyderabad: The Assembly on Tuesday condoled the death of four former MLAs -- Bandi Hulikuntappa, K. Anantha Reddy, Akkineni Bhaskara Rao and P. Mahendranath. The House placed on record its deep sense of sorrow and conveyed its condolences to members of the bereaved families.

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh United Teachers' Federation will stage a dharna on October 5 and a Chalo Assembly rally the day after to press their demands, including counselling for transfers. These decisions were taken by the State council of the federation, which concluded its two-day meeting on Tuesday.

Plea to release convicts

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Rytu Sangham has urged the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to order release of well-behaved life convicts who have completed five years, to mark 50 years of State formation. In a letter to Dr. Reddy on Tuesday, T.V. Chowdary, general secretary of the sangham, highlighted the plight of the prisoners' families.

Two drowned

KADAPA: An eight-year-old boy, Shaik Baba Jan, and his uncle, Shaik Fakruddin, were drowned at Simhadripuram in Kadapa district on Monday evening. When Fakruddin took cattle for grazing, Baba Jan, who accompanied him, stepped into a waterhole and drowned. Seeing this, Fakruddin jumped into the water to save the boy, but lost his life too. - Staff Reporter

Girls end life

Kakinada: A first year degree student of a private college Suseela Sri Swetha (18) has reportedly committed suicide by consuming acid on Monday night. It is stated that the mother had admonished her for not faring well in the class tests, which led her to resort to extreme step. Mallavarapu Devi (14) reportedly committed suicide by dousing herself with kerosene and setting herself ablaze on Monday night.
