KARIMNAGAR: Come festival, it is time for the shopping spree for the entire family. And if it is Dasara, it is something special for people in general and womenfolk in particular of the region.

All shops have been spruced up for the festival by colourfully decorating their shopping malls to attract customers. For the benefit of people and also weavers, the district Handlooms and Textiles Department in collaboration with the Union Textile Ministry is organising a handloom exhibition called `Chenata ragalu' at SRR kalyana mandapam in the town.

    Dazzling array

A total of 35 stalls have been put up by various handloom weavers cooperative societies of the district. Weavers societies from Anantapur, Cuddapah, Mahbubnagar, Warangal, Karimnagar, Guntur, Prakasam, Krishna and others places have set up stalls in the exhibition and on display are silk saris, dress material, dhotis, bedsheets, etc. and other shirtings, etc.

The exhibition, which opened on September 23, is doing roaring business and till Tuesday, the sale was put at Rs. 30 lakhs.

Women self-help groups members of the district have also put up a stall to sell their handmade products.

An official of the Handlooms Department said during last year's 15-day handloom expo they had done a whopping business of Rs. 1 crore through an estimated 70 stalls.
