BANGALORE: A three-member gang of thieves assaulted S.M. Sharma, former Director of Defence Research and Development Organisation, and his wife in Ferns City Layout in Mahadevpura police station limits in the early hours of Tuesday. According to police, the miscreants entered the layout by scaling the compound wall. They entered Mr. Sharma's house at around 3.30 a.m. by breaking open the front door. They hit Mr. Sharma's wife, Jayashri, on the head with a rod when she came out of the room hearing some noise. Hearing Jayashri's screams, Mr. Sharma went to his wife's rescue. The miscreants beat him up and two of them escaped from the scene. When Mr. Sharma caught hold of the third person, the two returned and hit Mr. Sharma to free their accomplice. The three thieves decamped with a suitcase. Police later found the suitcase containing some important documents abandoned outside Sharma's house. Mr. Sharma and his wife have been admitted to a private hospital, the police said.
Software engineer robbed
A six-member gang of thieves threatened a software engineer and two others and made away with Rs. 1.15 lakhs, debit cards, and three mobile phones from a house in Shanti Nagar in Ashok Nagar police station limits in the early hours of Tuesday.
