BANGALORE: The BJP Legislature Party finalised the strategy to face the elections to the zilla and taluk panchayats and also worked out the finer details of the `Sangharsha Yatra' to be taken out from October 14 to 23. It decided that the "failure" of the Government on many fronts and its neglect of development work would be the highlight of a "charge sheet" that the party would prepare before the `Sangharsha Yatra.' Briefing presspersons after a meeting, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly B.S. Yediyurappa said it was amusing that the senior Congress leader, A.K. Antony had praised the Government when the fact was that not a single irrigation project or development works related to agriculture and rural development had moved forward in the last 16 months. The meeting was attended by State BJP President Jagadish Shettar and legislators and office-bearers. Taking a dig at the Congress on the pace of progress on the Rs. 23,000-crore Krishna basin projects for which the Government had so far spent Rs. 12,316 crores, and had set aside Rs. 700 crores for the current year, Mr. Yediyurappa said at this rate it would need 14 years to complete projects under Scheme A alone. Andhra Pradesh, on the other hand, was going full speed on Scheme B projects and had obtained the Centre's clearance for projects worth Rs. 4,000 crores. The story was no different with regard to the Cauvery basin projects. Given these facts, it was not right on Mr. Antony's part to shower encomiums on N. Dharam Singh and his colleagues, Mr. Yediyurappa said.
`Tall promises'
After tall promises that the relief package for flood-hit districts would be drawn up on the scale of the one for tsunami relief, not a single rupee had been released so far. The Government was merely making noises about seeking Central funds, while Maharashtra had released Rs. 700 crores from its own coffers without waiting for Central funds. The charge sheet would also reveal how not a single Ashraya house had been built by the Government.
