CHENNAI:
Distribution of educational assistance to students and young achievers marked the centenary celebrations of S.P. Adithanar, organised by Anbu Paalam at Kalaivanar Arangam on Sunday.
Kirupa (18), of Koraiyaru village in Namakkal district, was honoured with a cash award of Rs. 1,001 for his 27 inventions.
Anandhi of Tiruvannamalai, who comes from an economically backward family, was given Rs. 3,000 for educational expenses.
She was among the students who received educational assistance worth Rs. 1 lakh this year.
Speakers wanted Adhithanar's birth anniversary to be observed by the State Government and wanted it to honour writers and literary works. Other demands included a stamp on Adhithanar, a journalism university in his name and renaming the Sethu Samudram project as the Tamilan Canal as per his wishes.
Tamil writer Vallikannan and director S.P. Muthuraman participated.
