Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in Palavakkam area, including Pandian Salai and Ellaiamman Koil Street on Friday between 9 a.m and 5 p.m for maintenance work.

Eye camp

The Hindu Mission hospital conducted `Kannappar Free Eye Camp' on Wednesday at Indira Nagar, Chitlapakkam. A medical team, which conducted the camp from 8 a.m to 12 noon, referred 11 of the 101 patients for free IOL surgery.

Blood donation

The N.S.S. unit of Hindustan College of Engineering, in association with Lions Blood Bank and Research Centre, West Tambaram, conducted a blood donation camp on Friday. Two hundred and thirty units of blood were collected.

Inter-collegiate management meet

The Postgraduate Department of Administration, M.O.P Vaishnav College conducted `ZEST 2005', an inter-collegiate management meet on Friday and Saturday. K.S.Ramesh, CEO and Executive Director, Cavin Kare inaugurated the event. MBA students from 24 institutions took part. IIPM bagged the overall shield.

Oratorical contest

YMCA conducted an oratorical contest in Tamil for college students on September 29.

Thirtyeight students from various colleges took part. R. Gandhi, Senior Advocate, Madras High Court gave away the prizes to winners.

Navaratri programme

A special Navaratri programme `Sri Sharadambal Darsanam', being telecast on Podigai TV from October 1 from 6.30 a.m to 7 a.m., will continue till October 12. Each episode highlights an aspect of Sringeri - the history of the temple, glory of Sharadambal and so on.

The programme also features an Anugraha Bhashana of Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal.

Ramzan from today

The Chief Shia Khazi Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Hujjath ul Islam Moulana Ghulam Mohammed Mehdi Khan has announced that since the new moon for the month of Holy Ramzan has not been sighted in Chennai and other parts of India, the first day of Ramzan will start on September 6, Thursday.
