MADURAI: With the storage in Vaigai dam fast depleting, Public Works Department officials on Wednesday conducted puja to invoke the blessings of Rain God at the dam. A section of farmers also participated in it. The water level in the Periyar dam stood at 125.40 feet with an inflow of 598 cusecs and a discharge of 1359 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 31.89 feet with an inflow of 1360 cusecs and a discharge of 2030 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 4589 mcft. Marudanadi recorded a rainfall of 40 mm followed by Periyakulam - 28.2, Sothuparai dam - 20, Mayiladumparai - 15, Shanmuganadi - 5, Andipatti and Manjalar dam - 2 mm each and Veerapandi and Vaigai dam - 1 mm each.
