LONDON: The gold pocket watch carried by Admiral Horatio Nelson when he died in 1805 during the Battle of Trafalgar fetched £400,000 (about Rs. 3.1 crores) at an auction on Wednesday. An anonymous buyer snatched up the watch, one of the few remaining relics from the Admiral's last hours, at a sale of Nelson memorabilia. Nelson led England to victory against the forces of France and Spain at Trafalgar on October 21, 1805. He died in the battle when a musket ball struck his spine. The watch is one of only 22 surviving examples of lever watches made by Joseph Emery, watchmaker to the royal family. AP
