JAIPUR: A joint venture between Mahindra Group and the Rajasthan Government, to set up a Special Economic Zone in Jaipur over 3000 acres of land on the Jaipur-Agra road, was announced here on Thursday. The project, which is expected to generate an investment worth Rs.10, 000 crores and facilitate 1 lakh jobs, will be executed by Mahindra World City Jaipur Limited (MWCJL), a joint venture of Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) and Mahindra Gesco Developers Ltd (MGDL). "This is going to be the largest integrated IT Park after Chennai. In the next six months the project will generate 1000-5000 jobs," a jubilant Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje observed at the glittering launch function. Maharastra Minister for Public Works Anil Deshmukh, captains of industry from various parts of the country, senior civil servants and experts of technology parks from abroad were present. "A vibrant private sector always creates jobs and investment. This is what Rajasthan needs," Ms.Raje said. "Today is an important day for us. From the days of licence raj, now the States need to market themselves. We seriously chased Mahindra and they know it. I am very pleased to see it materializing," she said. Modeled after the successful first Mahindra World City, Chennai, the Jaipur Word City would have IT, IT Enabled Services, auto ancillaries and apparels as its thrust areas. "Seeing the response to Mahindra World City, Chennai from investors, may States approached us with proposals for a similar venture. We settled for Rajasthan and Jaipur. Mahindra World City Jaipur would become a hub for development for the entire North India," Keshub Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra Group said.
