JAIPUR: Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh Governments have entered into an agreement to facilitate direct bus services to pilgrim and tourist destinations in both the States by their respective road transport corporations. The agreement, signed in Lucknow in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Neera Yadav and Rajasthan Transport Commissioner Ashok Singhvi, has cleared as many as 128 routes, covering a distance of over 34,000 kms daily in both the States. The agreement, signed by Mr. Singhvi and UP's Principal Secretary, Transport, Bhonwal, will allow 378 trips daily to Uttar Pradesh by the buses of the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation. The buses of the UP Road Transport Corporation will have 255 trips to Rajasthan on a single day, covering 34,676 kms. Surendra Kumar, managing director, RSRTC and Umesh Singh, managing director, UPSRTC, were present on the occasion. Both States have decided to permit private operators in 10 routes on the Schedule A category. This will amount to 2814 kms plying by U.P. private operators in Rajasthan and 2434 kms vice-versa in U.P. by the Rajasthan operators.
`Long over due'
"The agreement has been long over due. It has been revived after a gap of 17 years," Mr. Singhvi said. The routes agreed upon would directly link Jhansi to Jaipur, Saharanpur, Farukhabad, Lucknow, Banda, Shahjahpur to Ajmer, Sonauli to Jaipur, Allahabad to Pushkar by bus for the first time. The number of existing services between Agra-Gwalior, Gwalior-Jaipur, Gwalior-Delhi, Jaipur-Hardwar, Agra-Beaker and Lucknow-Jaipur will go up. The agreement has also increased the frequency of buses operated by the private bus owners in seven routes. The number of buses plying between areas falling under Braj (Agra-Mathura in UP and Bharatpur-Dholpur-Alwar in Rajasthan) will increase as per the agreement.
