HYDERABAD: The police foiled the attempt by four farmers to commit suicide in front of the Assembly on Thursday morning, and removed them to Nampalli police station. Hailing from Karukonda village of Bijnepalli mandal in Mahabubnagar district, the farmers attempted to strangulate themselves with a rope when police refused them permission to meet Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy. They came to complain to the House that the followers of former Minister Nagam Janardhan Reddy (TDP) were threatening them for exposing a scam in the Food-for-work programme in their village. Seeking the help of president of NTR-TDP N. Lakshmi Parvati and Congress MLAs-- G. Chinna Reddy and V. Vasanth Kumar they later explained to the Speaker their plight.
