Narayanan elected district panchayat president

Chairpersons of the five municipalities and presidents of nine block panchayats also take charge after their formal election.

KANNUR: K.K. Narayanan of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was on Thursday elected president of the Kannur district panchayat.

Mr. Narayanan, who was elected from the Pinarayi division of the district panchayat, was supported by 23 members in the 26-member panchayat in the election held in the presence of District Collector K.S. Srinivas, who was also returning officer, at the panchayat hall here in the morning. The Collector later administered the oath of office to Mr. Narayayan.

District panchayat member M.C. Raghavan was elected vice-president of the panchayat in the election held in the afternoon. Other members P.C. Shaji, O.P. Sheeja, Sathyan Vandichal, Umaiba, Roshni Khalid, Moly Joseph felicitated the new president and vice-president.

Chairpersons of the five municipalities and presidents of nine block panchayats also took charge after their formal election.

The municipalities and names of chairpersons and vice-chairpersons respepctively are as follows: Kannur municipality - K. Upendran (Congress) and B.P. Farookh (IUML).

Payyannur - G.D. Nair (CPI(M) and T.V. Ajayakumar (CPI(M); Taliparamba - Vadi Ravi (CPI(M) and T. Balakrishnan (CPI(M); Koothuparamba - N.K. Sreenivasan (CPI(M) and N. Vasu (CPI(M) and Thalassery - K.P. Raveendran (CPI(M) and Pilakandy Mohamedali (CPI(M). Block Panchayat presidents and vice presidents respectively are: Edakkad - Nelliyat Raghavan (CPI(M) and T. Krishnan (CPI(M).

Irikkur - K.P. Ramani (CPI(M) and N.K. Rajan (CPI(M); Iritty - P. Rosa (CPI(M) and M. Gangadharan (CPI(M).

Koothupramba - K.E. Kunhabdulla (CPI(M) and T.P. Anandan (Janata Dal(S).

Kannur - K. Girish Kumar (CPI(M) and K.M. Swapna (CPI); Payyannur - E.P. Karunakaran)CPI(M) and C.V. Kunhiraman (CPI(M); Taliparamba - E. Sujatha (CPI(M) and Thavam Balakrishnan (CPI).

Peravur - K. Saseendran (CPI(M) and N. Sreedharan (CPI(M) and Thalassery - T. Anil (CPI(M) and C. Anil Kumar (CPI(M).
