Naxalites thrash Congress leader

KHAMMAM: Naxalites belonging to CPI-ML (Maoist) allegedly beat up a Congress leader Muttaiah and his family members in Jaggaigudem village in Gundala mandal late on Wednesday night. Vigyan bhavan to set up `peace colony'

ADILABAD: Maharishi Ved Vigyan Bhavan will establish a `peace colony' in 100 acres in Adilabad. The blue print will be drawn up in consultation with important people of the town, according to the bhavan director M. Motilal Singh. He told reporters on Thursday that the bhavan, in collaboration with Vasavi Seva Samiti, wanted to establish the colony to spread the message of transcendental meditation of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. - Staff Reporter

Marine police station sanctioned

Nellore: The Centre has sanctioned a marine police station for Krishnapatnam port area. According to Superintendent of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, proposals have been forwarded to the Centre to set up such stations for the shore areas of Tatichetlapalem in Bogole mandal and Pambali in Vakadu mandal.

Man's death: three held

Vizianagaram: R. Peda Appala Naidu, 50, of Datti village in Dattirajeru mandal was beaten to death allegedly by one China Appala Naidu and two of his family members on Wednesday evening. The police arrested China Appala Naidu, his wife Simhachalam and son Eswara Rao. - Correspondent

25 arrested on gambling charge

Raichur: The Raichur police arrested 20 persons on the charges of gambling and recovered Rs. 14,000 from them at Pothnal village of Manvi taluk on Wednesday. In another case, the Hutti police arrested five persons on the charges of gambling and recovered Rs. 7,000 from them at Kotha village of Lingsugur taluk on Wednesday. All the arrested have been remanded in judicial custody. Separate cases have been registered.

Raichur: Meenakshi, 10, was killed when a NEKRTC bus ran over her on State Highway 23 near Kapgal village in Manvi taluk on Wednesday. The Manvi police have registered a case. — Staff Correspondent

Toddy seized

Raichur: The Raichur police arrested Narasappa, alias Mustafa, and seized 30 litres of toddy while he was allegedly selling it at Mailarnagar locality in the city on Wednesday. He has been remanded in judicial custody. The Marker Yard Police have registered a case. — Staff Correspondent

GULBARGA: Subhash Bijapur was elected unanimously as president of Kaplnoor Industrial Estate Manufacturers' Association here on Thursday. The association's executive committee elected Ravindra Mukka as the vice-president, Janardhan Lahoti as secretary, Jahgirdar as joint secretary, and Srikant Baldawa as treasurer.

Bidar: The Karnataka State Government Primary Teachers' Association has threatened to approach the court if the Government makes it mandatory for teachers to contribute a day's salary towards organising the National Kannada Sahitya Sammelana. Teachers are the lowest paid and over worked government employees.

They are already suffering due to delay in payment and other reasons, said association president Shivaraj Kaplapure in a release.
