Threat from TDP activists over exposing scam alleged
|
HYDERABAD:
The police foiled the attempt by four farmers to commit suicide in front of the Assembly on Thursday morning, and removed them to Nampalli police station.
Hailing from Karukonda village of Bijnepalli mandal in Mahabubnagar district, the farmers attempted to strangulate themselves with a rope when the police refused them permission to meet Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy to represent their grievance.
They came to the city to complain to the House that the followers of former Minister Nagam Janardhan Reddy of the Telugu Desam Party were threatening them with dire consequences for exposing a scam in the Food-for-work programme in their village.
Seeking the help of president of NTR-TDP N. Lakshmi Parvati and Congress MLAs-- G. Chinna Reddy and V. Vasanth Kumar-- the farmers, led by V.Narayana Reddy, later explained to the Speaker their plight ever since they had exposed the scandal.
