I'm a workaholic, says Devayani

S.R.Ashok Kumar

"My experience in film production was good. One must work hard. Business and promotion demand great work"

CHENNAI: Devayani has acted in nearly 80 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. Today, she is a household name after the Tamil serial "Kolangal." She speaks of her career and her new-found image in the small screen.

Ten years ago, I wouldn't have dreamt of being an actress at all. I was reserved who hardly socialised.

I see myself as a loving and sensitive person. But I am certainly a different from the one seen on the screen. I am capable of taking bold and tough decisions. You can say I am workaholic, who wants to do different kinds of role, which I have not done till now.

I was getting offers from serials right from the day I entered cinema. But I did not have the time to concentrate on it. When the "Kolangal" offer came I was really happy. It had a good story and my character was wonderful, And, it is produced by "Vikadan".

Frankly, I did not expect Tamil-speaking people to love me so much.

The serial is a success mainly because the character Abi and Devayani have good similarity. Both are sensitive and helpful in nature.

My favourite artists are Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Sridevi and Kajol in Hindu, Sivaji Ganesan, Kamal Haasan and Rajnikant in Tamil. And, of course Richard Gere, Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lopez.
