KANPUR: In an attempt to boost the cultivation of fruits vegetables and spices in Uttar Pradesh, the Centre has sanctioned an amount of Rs 111 crore under the State Horticulture Mission. Addressing the closing ceremony of the All India Kisan Mela in the Chandra Shekhar Azad Agriculture and Technology University here yesterday, State Agriculture Production Commissioner Navin Chandra Vajpayee said the Mission will be implemented in 28 districts of the state.
Easy loans
Under the mission, the farmers will be given easy loans and also 25 per cent subsidy to cultivate fruits, vegetables and spices, he added. Mr Vajpayee said the increasing cost of agricultural inputs made the cultivation of traditional crops unviable and the farmers needed to switch over to commercial crops, including oil seeds, fruits, vegetables and spices. The Commissioner said the new Agricultural Policy of the State would lay emphasis on solution to diverse problems of farmers including those pertaining to input cost, credit, organised farming, technical knowledge, transportation and marketing of produce, organic fertilisers and crop diversification. - UNI
