Court notice to U.P. Police in Katara murder case

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh Police on a bail application by Vikas Yadav, prime accused in the Nitish Katara murder case and son of former Rajya Sabha Member D.P. Yadav.

Justice R.S. Sodhi asked the police to file a reply to the bail application by November 21.

Vikas filed the application close on the heels of Mr. Justice Sodhi granting bail to Vishal Yadav, cousin of Vikas Yadav and his co-accused in the case.

On Thursday, Mr. Justice Sodhi had granted bail to Vishal Yadav on his furnishing a bail bond of Rs. 5 lakhs with two sureties of a like amount.

Before granting bail to Vishal Yadav, Mr. Justice Sodhi had allowed a revision petition of Neelam Katara, mother of Nitish Katara, challenging a trial court order allowing the Public Prosecutor in the case to drop Bharti Yadav, daughter of D.P. Yadav, as a prosecution witness.

Allowing a revision petition of Neelam Katara, Mr. Justice Sodhi said: " I set aside the order under challenge. Ms. Bharti, who is a prosecution witness, may now be examined in accordance with law".
