BELLO (COLOMBIA): An intense rainstorm triggered a landslide that buried part of a shantytown on the outskirts of the northwest Colombian city of Medellin, killing at least 26 persons, many of them children, officials said on Friday. Rescuers recovered the bodies and continued digging through the mud as nearly 30 persons remained missing, said an official in Bello, 250 km northwest of Bogota. The landslip, which brought mud, trees, garbage and rocks sweeping through the town of Bello, occurred late on Thursday after five hours of heavy rain. AP
