Gowtham stars for Vellore

TIRUNELVELI: B. Gowtham's unbeaten 92 helped Vellore defeat Cuddalore by nine wickets in the India Cement Mahavir Chand Trophy inter-district under-13 cricket tournament conducted by TDCA here on Saturday.

The scores: Cuddalore 140 for eight in 30 overs (J. Pradeep 62) lost to Vellore 142 for one in 25 overs (B.Gowtham 92 not out).

Thiruvarur 199 for four in 30 overs (S.V.Narendran 42 not out, V.Arunkumar 40) bt Dindigul 77 in 21.4 overs (K.Surendar four for 25). Kanyakumari 187 for seven in 30 overs (K.Srinivasan 49 not out, W.Santo 44) bt Pudukottai 143 in 25.7 overs. Theni 253 for six in 30 overs (K.J.Abishek 65, R.Naveen 59 not out) bt Karur 118 for eight in 29 overs. Madurai 55 in 19.3 overs lost to Thiruvannamalai 57 for four in 12.3 overs. Tuticorin 195 for nine in 30 overs (V.Girish 45) bt Dharmapurai 31 in 19.2 overs. Tiruchi 173 for eight in 30 overs (K.G. Madhaeswaran 46) bt Perambalur 60 in 24.3 overs.

Ashok Kumar posts win

M.Ashok Kumar of Chennai beat A.Ganeshkumar of Virdhuunagar 25-0, 25-0 in the boys' singles of the Tamil Nadu State Youth carrom championship at Sri Kaliswari College campus on Saturday.

Alagappa wins title

Alagappa University College of Physical Education, Karaikudi beat V.S.S. Government Arts College, Poolan Kurichi by 45 runs for the title in the final of the Alagappa University inter collegiate cricket tournament at Karaikudi recently.

The scores: AUCPE 149 for seven in 25 overs bt V.S.S. Govt. Arts College, Poolankurichi 104 for eight in 25 overs (S.Pandian four for 24).

PSNA takes title

PSNA Engineering beat Thiagarajar CoE 25-7, 25-22 in the final of the Anna University zone IX women's volleyball tournament at Pottapalayam, in Madurai, on Saturday.

Other results: (Third place): KLNCE bt KLNIT 25-13, 25-19.

SND (Thrissur) in final

Sri Naraya Dharmasala School (Thrissur) and host St. Xavier's (Palayamkottai) entered the final of the Southern States inter-school volleyball tournament in Tirunelveli on Saturday.

The results (semifinals): SND (Thrissur) bt Swami Sivananda HSS (Cbe) 20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21; St. Xaviers HSS bt Union HSS (Kerala) 25-12, 25-16, 25-11.

Football tournament

The first invitation State-level football tournament, to be conducted by the Kotagiri Green Valley Football Club, will be held at the Gandhi Maidan grounds in Kotagiri from October 19 to 30.
