Flood-hit tribals of two villages to be relocated

Damage extensive, say officials; Stateto be apprised of situation


  • 181 families of Kamaragudem and 71 families from Sabari Kohagudem to be rehabilitated
  • Houses to be provided under Indira Awas Yojana
  • Families displaced in Khammam and Yellandu town to be considered for permanent rehabilitation

    KHMMAM: People of two villages - Kamaragudem and Sabari Kothagudem -- which had borne the brunt of the floods, would be shifted to safer places, according to Neerabh Kumar Prasad, Special Officer in charge of flood relief and district Collector Rajendra Narendra Nimje.

    Briefing newspersons on Friday night after a three-day tour in the affected areas, they said that the flood ravage was quite extensive and the Government would be appraised of the prevailing conditions.

    Land to be acquired

    They said that the tribals of Kamaragudem were living in a precarious situation. As their recent experience proved, they were highly vulnerable to the floods. The people had accepted the proposal for their rehabilitation in a nearby location. All the 181 families, which belonged to the Koya tribe would be provided IAY houses. Moves were afoot for acquiring the required land.

    So was the case with the Sabari Kohagudem village. In all 70 families in the village would be provided with new houses so as to make them free from the problem of flood once and for all.

    The Collector said the families which were displaced in Khammam and Yellandu town because of flood in Muneru river and Buggavagu stream would also be considered for permanent rehabilitation. The enumeration part of the exercise was already completed.

    Water supply

    The special officer said that the restoration of the water supply schemes was given top priority. The works were being implemented on war footing.

    He pointed out that only one bore well was functioning in Kamaratta village and the water supply in the village would be augmented by restoring the schemes rendered defunct by the flood.
