KHAMMAM: In all, 255 lift irrigation schemes of the Andhra Pradesh State Irrigation Development Corporation (APIDC) have been badly affected by floods in different districts, according to the Corporation Director, Janjirala Rajesh. Detailing on the flood ravage after a three-day tour in the district, he told media persons on Saturday 162 schemes were damaged in Khammam district alone. Another 35 lifts were left damaged in East Godavari district. There was no trace of 20 schemes as the equipment and pipelines were washed away in flash floods in Godavari, Sabari, Kinnerasani and Munneru rivers in Khammam district.
Funds needed for revival
In Gundala mandal the highest number of 24 lifts were damaged. Another 24 schemes were hit by the flash floods in Sabari river in Chintoor and Kunavaram mandals. He said Khammam district alone would require as much as Rs. 2.8 crores for revival of the schemes. He said that the Chief Minister would be apprised of the state of the lift irrigation schemes. An ayacut of 25,058 acres would be affected if the schemes were not made functional under a time bound programme. Some of the schemes affected by floods were revived a few months ago.
