Conference on human rights and water

CHENNAI: The Department of Social Work, Madras Christian College is organising a three-day international study conference on human rights and water from Monday. The conference aims at enabling social work students and activists to analyse issues of water in relation to human rights.

Health check-up

Lions Club of Madras Coast Town and Wisdom Medical Research Foundation conducted free medical check up to mark World Service Day on Saturday. Patients were screened for hypertension, diabetes and eye related problems.

Health camp

About 100 persons were screened at a health camp organised by Lions Club of Cathedral Madras and Small Industries Service Institute, Guindy last week. Around 130 units of blood was also collected.

Self - defence tips for girl students

About 650 girls of Vel's College of Science, Old Pallvaram, were taught self-defence tips to tackle the challenges they face in daily life. Kamali from Procter and Gamble and a karate coach conducted the training programme on Wednesday.

`Prathishta Mahotsavam'

The `Prathishta Mahotsavam' of deities including Venkatesa Perumal and Padmavath Thayar, would be held on October 14 at 6.10 a.m at Muthumariamman temple at TNHB quarters, Avadi.

Blood Donors' Day

Lions Club of Central Madras celebrated world Blood Donor's day on October 1. Dr. Naushad from the Government Peripheral Hospital, Anna Nagar and his team, conducted the camp. Fiftynine units of blood was collected.

On October 2, the Club, the Diabetic Association of India and Sankara Nethralaya conducted the Diabetic Retinopathy screening camp at Baba Nursing Home in Nandanam.

One hundred and thirty diabetics participated.
