TIRUCHI: Speakers stressed the need to protect wildlife and forests at the Wildlife Week Celebrations organised by the Forest Department here on Saturday. Rally, photo exhibition on wild life and distribution of prizes to school and college students, who emerged winners in various competitions, marked the celebrations here. Distributing prizes, the Labour Minister, P. Annavi, highlighted the steps taken by the State Government to protect wildlife and forests. Facilities like mobile phones, jeeps, who were involved in protecting wildlife and forests, were provided. The Collector, K. Nanda Kishore, who presided, said it was essential to protect wildlife and forest. A sum of Rs. 80 lakhs had been spent for laying roads in Pachamalai area. Lakshmi Narayanan, Chief Conservator of Forests - cum- Joint Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Plantation Corporation, Tiruchi, stressed the need to protect wildlife. The Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation Chairman, M. Paranjothi, the District Forest Officer, K.V. Giridhar. Prizes were distributed to school and college students who emerged winners in painting, elocution and photography competitions.
