NEW YORK: British singer Boy George appeared in court in Manhattan on Saturday and was charged with possessing cocaine. He was arrested on Friday after reporting a burglary at his apartment. However, on arrival, police discovered more than 3.5 grams of cocaine. Possession of the drug carries a possible maximum sentence of 15 years in jail. Boy George looked dazed and did not say anything in court. When the brief appearance was over, he walked out of the courtroom, and began crying. His lawyer, Lou Freeman, said the drugs were not his client's. "He does not know where it came from. He's had a lot of people in his house. A man who has something to hide does not call police." © Guardian Newspapers Limited 2004
