VISAKHAPATNAM: Vijayadasami, marking the victory of the good over the evil, was celebrated with religious zest and enthusiasm. In pandals erected all over the city and at temples, pujas were performed and the devout worshipped the Goddess in Her several manifestations. People thronged various temples and pandals erected at several places. At the Kanakamahalakshmi temple, the Goddess was decorated with a golden crown and gold ornaments and thousands of flowers. The utsava murthy (idol) was kept in the sanctum sanctorum for performing abhishekams, according to Deputy Commissioner and Executive Offier S. Kondala Rao.
Chandi homam
A Chandi homam was also performed to mark the Sarannavaratri celebration. A stream of devotees continued to pour in till late in the evening for the darshan on the auspicious day. At the Bhavatharini Matha (Kali) temple on Beach Road, the number of devotees who queued up for the darshan swelled by the evening. Maharnavami puja marked the Bengali Association's Sarbojanin Durga Puja at Prahlada Kalyana Mantapam. A large number of devotees thronged the pandal of the Electrical (General) East Coast Railway near the railway stadium where the Khadgamala Pooja was performed in the evening. A resplendent, large idol of Durga Devi punishing the demon Mahisasura drew the devout who stood in queues for a long time for the darshan. At the Satya Sai Premasudha Pranganam the celerbations culminated with Devipuja and Poornahuti. More than 100 children were initiated into education by performing a mass "aksharabhyasam.'' At the Shirdi Saibaba Spiritual Centre in Seethammadhara, special ''abhishekhams and alakaranas to Sri Saibaba, Sri Mahalakshmi Durga and Sri Venkateswara Swami marked the conclusion of Sri Devi Navaratri celebration. The celerbations comprising discourses and a Vaggeyakara Kalavaibhavam, a literary-musical event, which began on October 2 at Sri Lalita Peetham at Lalithanagar concluded on Dasami. Sri Satachandiyagam marked the celebration at the TSR Kalyana Mantapam.
