Heavy rush in temples for `Vidyarambhom'

Over 1,200 children participated in temple ceremony



ALL TEARS: A child being initiated into the world of letters at the Pallikkunnu Sree Mookambika Temple in Kannur on the Vijayadashami Day on Wednesday.

KANNUR: Major temples in the district witnessed heavy rush of children for the ceremony of initiation into the world of letters on Vijayadashami Day on Wednesday.

Over 1,200 children participated in the Vidyarambhom ceremony at the Pallikunnu Sree Mookambika Temple here.

The ceremony that lasted nearly six hours ended at 3 p.m. The initiation ritual was headed by Melshanthi Padmanabhan Namboodiri.

Mridangom artiste Kuzhalmandam Ramakrishnan and his troupe presented `Vadyasangamam' at the temple in the evening along with other rituals to mark the culmination of the Navaratri festival.

Vijayadashami was also celebrated at Cherukunnu Annapoorneswari Temple, Velam Sree Mahaganapathi Temple, Rajarajeswari Temple, Taliparamba, Irikkur Mammanikunnu Devi Temple and Kuttyattur Mahavishnu Temple.
