THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Border Security Force (BSF) will be setting up a unit in Kochi shortly. It will be first unit of the BSF in the State. Initially, one battalion of BSF would be stationed in Kochi. Director General of BSF R.K. Mooshahary held discussions with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here on Wednesday regarding land acquisition and other matters connected to the establishment of the unit here. The Chief Minister said after the talks that the Government had promised to make land available by January. The Director General had visited Kochi and was satisfied about the location chosen for the camp. Asked whether the security problems along the coast were reason for setting up of the unit here, Mr. Chandy replied in the negative. Even Bangalore had a unit of the BSF. He said that more than a thousand Malayalis were working in the BSF. The proposed unit would provide them an opportunity to serve in Kerala. Hence, the State Government had requested the Centre to establish a unit here.
