HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday announced Rs. 2 crores' relief for earthquake victims of Jammu and Kashmir. Ryot commits suicide

KADAPA: A citrus farmer, Mallela Subba Rao (50), hanged himself from a neem tree in Mallela village in Thondur mandal on Tuesday. Subba Rao, who owed Rs. 4 lakhs, took his cattle for grazing and committed suicide. - Staff Reporter

Six hurt in clash

KURNOOL: Six persons were injured in a clash between supporters of TDP and Congress at Venkatapuram Colony in Yemmiganur on Tuesday. Differences, which cropped up between the two groups during the election precipitated into a clash. Both groups used sickles, stones and sticks in the attack. Red sanders seized

KADAPA: Forest officials seized 47 red sander logs worth Rs. 75,000 near Thippireddipalle tank in Vanipenta forest range in Mydukur mandal on Tuesday. The logs, kept for illegal transportation were seized and shifted to Vanipenta forest range office, according to the forest range officer Khader Basha. - Staff Reporter

Maoist dump unearthed

VISAKHAPATNAM: A special party of the district police unearthed a dump of the banned CPI(Maoist) near Agency Annavaram village under Labadampalli panchayat in Chintapalli mandal on Tuesday. An SBBL gun, three gas cylinders and revolutionary material were recovered. The police party found the dump following a specific information. - Special Correspondent

Cotton bales gutted

ADILABAD: 2,400 bales of cotton stored in a godown at the market committee yard was destroyed in a fire mishap on Tuesday. The bales belonged to the Cotton Corporation of India. According to II town SI P. Sambaiah, the fire seems to have started accidentally at the godown at about 8 p.m. and was put out by Wednesday afternoon. - Staff Reporter

Scientists allay fears

Nellore: Two ONGC scientists -- S. Kamaraju and V. Nethanial -- who visited the house in Vedayapalem of Nellore town, where `heat' had emanated from the earth, on Tuesday, allayed the fears of residents. They took soil samples and made it clear that there was no scope for gas or mineral deposits. - Staff Reporter

Two die of snakebite

Nellore: A 10-year old boy and a 30-year old man lost their lives due to snakebite in the district on Tuesday. While the first incident occurred in Lekkalavaripalem of Vinjamoor mandal, the other incident was reported in Marripadu village of Sangam mandal. The police are investigating. - Staff Reporter

Constable kills himself

KURNOOL: A constable, Venkataramudu, attached to Two Town at Nandyal, committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Tuesday. He was admitted to hospital in a serious condition and died later. Family troubles are said to be the reason for the extreme step. - Staff Reporter

CHITTOOR: Kodavalur Sailaja Subba Reddy of Chennai has presented a gold crown worth Rs. 4 lakhs to Varasiddi Vinayaka Swamy, Kanipakam on Wednesday in connection with the celebrations of Sri Maragadambika Sametha Sri Manikanteswara Dasara Sarannava Rathri Mahotsavam. KURNOOL: P. Manasa Veena, student of Balasai High School here got selected for 20th National Tennikoit (under 14) tournament. Seeds on subsidy

ONGOLE: Arrangements have been made for distribution of Bengal gram and sunflower seeds on subsidy through 20 agricultural market committees in the district. The Government has decided to supply 1,000 quintals of sunflower seeds on 33.3 per cent subsidy and 42,000 quintals of Bengal gram on 50 per cent subsidy.

The district has already received 2,124 quintals of Bengal gram and 1,000 quintals of sunflower seeds for distribution. Cock 2 variety of Bengal gram is sold at Rs. 45 per kg while other varieties are sold at Rs. 13.50 per kg. Any variety of sunflower seeds can be had with 33.3 per cent subsidy. The district expects to cover Bengal gram on one lakh hectares and sunflower on 24,000 hectares this year. Special Correspondent
