TIRUCHI: : The U.S.-based Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) has appreciated the innovative work on bio-medical engineering by a group of researchers from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, and Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, by according them the honour of presenting their paper on `Genetic Algorithm for Classification of Epilepsy Risk Levels from EEG (electroencephalogram) Signals' at its International Technical Conference (TENCON 2005, Region 10), slated for November 21-24 in Australia during November. The work, undertaken by R. Harikumar, and R. Sukanesh of Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, and S. Raghavan of National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, was recognised for oral presentation at the conference by the TENCON 2005 Committee. Dr. Raghavan would present the paper in person. TENCON 2005, an international technical conference sponsored by IEEE Region 10 (there are 10 IEEE Regions in the world), was planned to provide an international forum for specialist presentations, discussions and interactions. It will be hosted by the IEEE Victorian Section, with co-sponsorship support of other professional bodies in Australia. The committee rated as `important and well presented' the paper on `Genetic Algorithm for Classification of Epilepsy Risk Levels from EEG Signals', after its approval by various technical committees. The TENCON 2005 Committee found the topic to be highly relevant for the society, especially in the field of Medical Engineering. The committee also recognised the steady growth of biomedical processes in India.
