BSNL official to meet consumer organisations

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Deputy General Manager (Rural), Thiruvananthapuram Telecom District, will meet BSNL consumer organisations from Varkala, Kavalayoor, Edava, Ayiroor, Kallambalam, Madavoor-Pallickal, Kilimanoor, Nagaroor, Ponganad and Thattathumala telephone exchanges at the Government guesthouse in Papanasam, Varkala, on Friday at 3 p.m. — Staff Reporter

Plea to residents' associations

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: M. Vijayakumar, former Speaker, has urged various residents' associations to play a significant role in developing the capital city. He was speaking after inaugurating the EMS Nagar Residents Association building constructed by the Kerala State Housing Board at Pattoor. Association secretary R. Satheesh Kumar and president A.C. Course on Indian epigraphy

Selected for scholarship

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The `2004-2005' merit scholarship instituted jointly by the Students' Federation of India State Committee and Baharin Prathibha has been declared. One student each from the Higher Secondary, Graduation, Post-graduation, Polytechnic and professional courses are selected for the scholarship. Candidates who have been selected include Vijitha T.V. (Government Higher Secondary School, Kasaragod), Socha C.S. (S.N. College, Kollam at the graduate level) Shalini M.C. (S.D. College, Alapuzha at the post-graduate level) Shyam Kumar M.A. (Government Poly Technic, Attingal) and Asha Kumar (B.S.C. Nursing, M.G. University in the professional category.) Snithi Mol K. from Sri Hari Women's College, Guruvayoor won the scholarship in the category reserved for candidates who hail from a martyr's family. — Staff Reporter

Bomb scare

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A transistor-shaped object found abandoned on top of a car near Vaikundam marriage hall, near Padmanabhaswamy Temple, this evening created a scare as people mistook it for some explosive and alerted the police. However, it turned out to be harmless following a search carried out by the bomb squad. — Staff Reporter
