What does it take to succeed at the highest level, be it in business, sports or any other field? "Motivation and sheer hard work," is the former Indian captain Kapil Dev's prescription. He was here the other day giving a real pep talk to the professionals working with U.S. Technology International Private Limited, the largest software company operating from the Technopark in the State capital. He spent nearly two hours in the company as a special guest in connection with the `foundation week.' celebrations of the company. He told the 2,000-strong battalion of the company's software professionals how he had managed a smooth transition from a successful cricketer to a successful businessman. "The basic things for success in both fields are the same," he said with conviction. However, it was more about cricket than business that the techies wanted to hear from the legendary `Haryana Hurricane,' the greatest all-rounder in cricket that India has produced. "How do you rate Sehwag and will Tendulkar strike form after his long layoff? And what about Irfan Pathan? Can he become another Kapil Dev?" they wanted to know. Some questions were simple and some others quite tricky. But the legendary cricketer fielded each question with a smile on his face. Kapil Dev made even the toughest one look as easy as that catch in the 1983 World Cup when he ran back some 30 yards to hold the ball that rocketed into the skies from Vivian Richard's sledgehammer of a bat.
