TREASURES ON WHEELS: Vintage cars lined up at K.R. Circle in Mysore on Thursday
MYSORE: Adding glamour to "Jamboo Savari", nearly 50 vintage cars rolled on Sayyaji Rao Road from the Mysore Palace soon after Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh performed the "Nandi Dwaja Puja" at the Balarama Gate. Automobiles of different models and make from the 1920s and '30s enthralled the large number of people who had lined up on either side of Sayyaji Rao Road. The vintage car rally was organised by the Karnataka Vintage and Classic Car Club in connection with Dasara festivities and preceded the main Dasara procession. Those who were anxiously waiting for the howdah elephant were captivated by the roar of vintage motors. The cars on show included Lanchesters, Chevrolets, Fords, Mercedes, Hillmans, Sunbeams, and Cadillacs. These awesome automobiles, which were once owned by the royal families of Udayapur, Rajkot, Kutch, and Travancore, added sheen to the Dasara celebrations. Among the cars were those that were once owned by Kuvempu and Motilal Nehru.
