PONDICHERRY: : Round-the-clock garbage clearance in Pondicherry has suffered a setback with conservancy workers engaged by the private refusing to work in many areas. Since Wednesday night, around 50 conservancy staff, mostly women from a self-help group, struck work in areas along the Cuddalore Road because they had not been paid their salaries during the last five months. When contacted, the person involved in the programme said "they were not sanctioned the money from the Local Administration Department so we cannot pay their salary."
