PONDICHERRY: The one-day meeting of the Pondicherry State Planning Board held under the chairmanship of Lt. Governor M.M.Lakhera on Thursday felt that project approach should be adopted to obtain enhanced plan allocation from the Planning Commission. The meeting was held to give broad guidelines in the framing of the annual plan (2006-2007), which would be the last year of the current Tenth Plan (2002-2007). The Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Local Administration Minister, A. Elumalai, the Member of Parliament V. Narayanasamy, the Leader of the Opposition in the Pondicherry Assembly R. V. Janakiraman and the non- official member of the Board and retired Chief Secretary of Pondicherry R. S. Chari participated in the deliberations. The Chief Secretary, C. S. Khairwal, the Development Commissioner B. V. Selvaraj, the Deputy Inspector General of Police Kewal Singh and host of senior officials of the various departments were also present. The Director of Planning and Research Department M.Sreedharan gave a power presentation on utilisation of funds during the first four years of the current five-year plan and also in the annual plan (2005-2006). An official release distributed to media persons at the end of the meeting said that meeting felt that development of airport, port, construction of flyovers, industrial development, power projects, tourism related schemes, Information and Technology and e-governance should be given focused attention in the next annual plan to generate more employment opportunities.
