JAIPUR: The National Cooperative Development Corporation and the Rajasthan Government have jointly selected Hanumangarh district under the integrated cooperative development scheme to ensure its all round development and proposed a plan of the size of Rs. 28.27 crores for the district. A total of 11 of the 32 districts in the State have so far been covered under this public welfare scheme. The five-year plan proposed for Hanumangarh envisages strengthening of village cooperative committees, milk producers' committees and Cooperative Land Development Bank as well as the development of infrastructure. The Hanumangarh Collector, T. Ravikant, said in a statement on Thursday that activities such as agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and handicrafts would be promoted through these cooperative bodies. The specific needs of rural areas in the districts would be met through bio-farming and farmers' service centres, which would provide essential items to farmers. Mr. Ravikant said a project implementation agency at the district headquarter would make the area-specific plans, allocate the funds and ensure coordination and implementation at the grass-root level. The assistance to individuals and organisations under the scheme would be provided in the shape of both loan and grants. The State Government has proposed to allocate Rs. 12.48 crores under the plan to 190 village cooperative committees, while Rs. 95 lakhs will be given to them as the margin money assistance for expansion of their works. Other works will entail the construction of buildings for the cooperative committees and warehouses for agricultural produce and fertilisers. Mr. Ravikant said Rs. 4.73 crores would be allocated for development of 12 branches of the Sriganganagar Central Cooperative Bank functioning in Hanumangarh district and Rs. 3.57 crores would be spent on strengthening 350 milk producers' cooperative committees. The Collector pointed out that a significant percentage of population in the district was associated with the cooperative activities and the scheme would help strengthen the cooperative movement.
