CHANDIGARH: As a goodwill gesture, the Haryana Government has so far despatched a consignment of 40,000 blankets and 927 tents for the earthquake victims in Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesman said here on Thursday. He said that the consignment of blankets had been sent in trucks by road whereas tents were airlifted by planes from Ambala and Delhi. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had assured his Kashmir counterpart, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, of all help from the people and the State Government for the affected people. In addition, another 20,000 blankets have been sent through Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and Rajiv Gandhi National Relief and Welfare Trust.
Himachal aid
Staff Correspondent adds from Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Government on Thursday sent an aid of Rs.1crore to the earthquake-affected people in Jammu and Kashmir. Disclosing this, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said the people of the hill State were deeply concerned at the deaths and devastation wrought by the earthquake and wanted to share the responsibility of helping the affected people. He said that the State had also dispatched 5000 blankets for distribution amongst the quake-hit families.
