ALIGARH: All work at the Aligarh Muslim University came to a standstill on Thursday following a boycott by the teaching and non-teaching staff protesting the recent High Court decision depriving the University its minority status. The one-day token strike was in response to a call given by 18 organisations including the AMU Students' Union. ``We have come to a single platform putting aside the differences as we feel that the very ethos of this institution is now at stake,'' a spokesman for the protesters said. Leaders of different AMU organisations, who met under the aegis of the AMU Action Committee, later passed a resolution stating that it would hold conventions in different parts of the country to highlight their apprehensions on the minority status issue. They will also hold a protest march on Friday. The Allahabad High Court on October 4 quashed the law that gave the University its minority status and held as illegal the reservation of seats for Muslims in its post graduate medical courses. PTI
