SALEM: Social Welfare Minister, Vijayalakshmi Palanichamy, on Thursday inspected the Annai Satya Memorial Government Home for destitute children and instructed its officials to keep the home environment neat and tidy. Following reports on the home's unhygienic condition, the Minister visited the inmates and enquired about their health. About 12 had skin diseases and were treated as outpatients in the Salem Government Medical College Hospital recently. She assured the inmates that doctors from Salem Corporation would visit home daily to provide them necessary medical care. The Corporation had also formed a medical team , she said. While examining the kitchen, she asked the cooks to use clean utensils to prepare food for children. After seeing the free cycles given to the students in a damaged condition, she warned the officials that the government would take severe action if they did not allow the students to use the cycles. The Minister also assured that steps would be initiated to fill up vacancies in the home, which was housing 250 children. Corporation Mayor, R. Sureshkumar, Corporation Commissioner, T.T. Balsamy, and District Social Welfare Officer, R.Anbu, were present.
