EC notice to Jaya Bachchan

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has issued notice to Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan on a complaint that she is holding an office of profit and that she should be disqualified.

The EC acted on a reference from the office of President Abdul Kalam following a complaint from Madan Mohan alleging that Ms. Bachchan became chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Corporation after becoming a member of the Upper House, EC sources said.

The EC sought her reply by October 31 and fixed a hearing for November 28. — PTI
