THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More facilities will be provided for Sabarimala pilgrims this year in the land made available for the purpose at Nilakkal. A high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here on Thursday to review the arrangements being made for the pilgrims during the coming season decided to provide electricity connection to Nilakkal using underground cable, dig three bore wells and ponds to provide drinking water, construct 400 new toilets and renovate the old ones and construct a lot for parking 10,000 vehicles. Fifty cents of land at Nilakkal would be made available to the Ayyappa Seva Sangham for its activities as part of the Master Plan. The meeting, which was attended by Devaswom Minister K.C. Venugopal, Forest Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Transport Minister N. Sakthan, Food Minister Adoor Prakash, Health Minister K.K. Ramachandran and Public Works Minister M.K. Muneer, among others, resolved to complete the repair and maintenance work of all approach roads, including the M.C. Road before November 10. The final orders by the Supreme Court on the 12.61 hectares of land to be made available along the Pampa-Sannidhanam pathway was expected on October 10. A decision on the work to be executed there would be taken after that. In the medical area, it was decided to deploy medical and paramedical staff, strengthen the facilities in the peripheral hospitals and increase the in-patient facility by 10 more in the Pampa hospital.
