Acquitted of rape
``The testimony of a rape victim is taken very seriously and corroboration is not insisted upon. However, a child witness is always vulnerable to extraneous influences, and therefore the court has to ensure that the probability of tutoring is ruled out,'' Additional Sessions Judge A K Garg observed while acquitting the accused Naresh. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in a jhuggi cluster near Moti Bagh flyover in Chanakyapuri area of south Delhi on November 30, 2003 afternoon when one Geeta, who lived in the neighbourhood, heard a child wailing nearby. On entering the jhuggi, Geeta saw the accused was about to rape the victim. However, a medical examination of the child did not support the prosecution case of attempted rape.
