Complaints allowed to gather dust

S. Vijay Kumar

MADURAI: For many residents of the Railway Colony, living with mosquitoes, the stink and snakes has become no big deal.

Despite repeated complaints to the authorities concerned, the storm water channel that runs through the colony with stagnated rainwater and drainage remains unattended. This has facilitated the growth of thick vegetation along the banks of the channel and adjoining areas.

Apart from being a potential breeding ground for mosquitoes, the channel also poses a threat to the safety of the residents.

While parents have a tough time keeping children from the dirty water, the movement of different kinds of snakes is a common sight in the area.

A majority of the residents lament that this complaint is only an addition to other grievances such as frequent thefts, power cuts and drinking water shortage in the colony.
