88 face charges for breaking pumpkins on the road

CHENNAI:
The City Police hasregistered cases against 88 persons for breaking pumpkins on the road, despite an appeal from the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner, R. Natraj.
A police press release said in view of the Ayudha Pooja and Saraswathi Pooja, the Police Commissioner had appealed to the traders and businessmen in the city not to break pumpkins on the road. However, in some places the pumpkins were broken on the road and the police on patrol cleared them with the help of local people. The immediate removal of pumpkin pieces had helped in avoiding any accident.
The police had filed cases under Section 75 (causing nuisance) of the City Police Act against 88 persons.
