VISAKHAPATNAM: Elaborate arrangements are being made to observe Martyrs Week from Saturday to October 21 in Visakhapatnam district to pay homage to the police personnel who lost their lives at the hands of anti-social elements. According to Superintendent of Police V.V. Srinivasa Rao, the martyrs in CISF, APSP, BSF, SSF, CRPF, ITBP, IB, CBI and other police wings would also be covered under the programme. A special poster on police martyrs would be released on Saturday, and essay writing and elocution competitions would be held for school childen in Anakapalle, Bheemunipatnam, Yelamanchili, Narsipatnam and Chintapalli, he said.
Important feature
One important feature of the programme would be that commercial films portraying the bravery of the policemen would be screened free of cost in all important towns in the district during the entire week, he announced. An `Open House' would be conducted, with police stations thrown open for the public to create an awareness on the functioning of the police. School children would be briefed on aspects, such as fingerprints, footprints and police communication and working of VHF sets during the open house. Mr. Srinivasa Rao said rallies would also be organised by the police personnel in all important towns on October 19. The next day, poor-feeding would be conducted at the weekend shandy in Gudem Kotha Veedhi. A spot painting competition would be held for students of Andhra University Fine Arts Department the same day, and cash prizes would be given to winners. A convention of martyrs' families would be organised on October 20 .
