Paramount Airways to start operations on Wednesday

No clearance pending from authorities, says Thiagarajan

COIMBATORE: Paramount Airways is all set to become part of the country's aviation map from Wednesday on the Coimbatore-Delhi sector. Promoted by a Madurai-based industrial house with Coimbatore as its headquarters, the airlines has procured its first plane — a Brazilian Embraer aircraft was delivered last month.

With the manufacturer promising to deliver four more aircraft in a phased manner before March 2006, Paramount Airways is all set to launch its services on two sectors, i.e., Coimbatore-New Delhi-Coimbatore and New Delhi-Kochi-New Delhi in the first phase. Commenting on the delay in the commencement of operations, Paramount Airways denied that it was for want of clearance from the civil aviation authorities.

``There is no clearance pending from the authorities as far as my knowledge goes and we have obtained all the needed clearances,'' M. Thiagarajan, Managing Director, said.

He told The Hindu that the airline had obtained the winter schedule for the sector cleared by the Director-General of Civil Aviation, but the wait for the winter schedule clearance was `strictly' not the reason for the delay. The maiden operation on the Coimbatore-Delhi sector was originally planned from September 24/25.

Administrative reasons led to the postponement. The aircraft was parked at the Coimbatore airport tarmac for about a month. ``We have planned two flights for travel agents and two charity flights starting from tomorrow before we could start off our commercial running from Wednesday next,'' said Mr. Thiagarajan.

According to the Paramount Airways office in Coimbatore, the schedule is as follows; I7101 will leave Coimbatore 6.00 a.m. and arrive in New Delhi 9.00 a.m; I7402 will leave Delhi 9.30 a.m. and arrive in Kochi 12.30 noon and, in the return direction, I7401 will leave Kochi 13.05 hrs and arrive in New Delhi 16.10 hrs; I7102 will leave New Delhi 16.45 hrs and arrive in Coimbatore 19.40 hrs.
