VIJAYAWADA: Americare, a US-based voluntary organisation, has sent a consignment of broad-spectrum antibiotic drugs costing Rs. 9 crores for distribution to the poor and the needy patients in coastal districts.
The organisation is distributing the medicine through Impact India, an NGO engaged in providing basic healthcare to the poor people. It takes the help of DM&HOs of the respective districts for distribution. But in Krishna district, it has identified Katragadda Venkatanarayana Trust also for distributing the medicine.
Trust Chairman Katragadda Nagamalleswara Rao alias Babu says that the trust has received antibiotics costing Rs. 5.6 lakhs.
The drug Spetra CEF is very costly and it has been found very effective in treating viral and bacterial infections.
This is the season when people fall ill due to infections following lack of safe drinking water supply.
The trust will distribute the medicines at its daily medical camp for the poor people.
"This is the first time they have given medicines to an outside agency. We are proud to have been selected for this. It will help us support more poor families," Mr. Babu says.
Rotary International district 3020 Governor M.C. Das has said that the first consignment of broad-spectrum antibiotics are being distributed in the coastal districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna.
This will be used to meet the needs of poor people in the remaining districts of the State. Mr. Das said that they are planning to get the distribution programme formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy soon.
